Every Mid-Autumn Festival, the streets of Tai Hang come alive with the spectacular Fire Dragon Dance. This centuries-old tradition dates back to the 19th century, when villagers paraded a dragon studded with glowing incense sticks to ward off a plague. Today, the event features a 67-metre-long giant dragon, lit with over 12,000 incense sticks and carried by more than 300 strong performers, alongside a children's LED dragon procession. As the dragon weaves through the narrow lanes of Tai Hang, the flickering flames and swirling smoke create a mesmerising spectacle. This enduring symbol of community unity has drawn countless locals and tourists alike, and is now recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage – a true gem of Hong Kong's festive traditions.
