National Day fireworks to light up Victoria Harbour on 1 October | Sun Life exclusive sponsorship of HK$18 million

First-ever 0.01-second precision "pendulum sunflowers" | 31,888 fireworks blooming with Chinese vitality

To celebrate the founding of the People's Republic of China, a 23-minute National Day Fireworks Display will take place over Victoria Harbour at 8pm on 1 October. This year's display is coordinated by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau and exclusively sponsored by Sun Life, with an overall budget of approximately HK$18 million. Under the theme "Sun Life Fireworks Illuminate China", 31,888 fireworks will be launched, conveying best wishes for the nation's prosperity and Hong Kong's renewed success.

The display will deploy 3 barges and 6 small floating vessels across 9 launch points, weaving a spectacular fireworks curtain 250 metres high and 900 metres wide. The entire display is divided into eight scenes, with the second scene, "Warmth of the Sun", as the highlight, showcasing layers of golden-red halos blooming like sunflowers with a warm and resolute visual effect.

Mr Mao Weicheng, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Star Multimedia Production Limited, which is responsible for the fireworks production, said that new technology has been specially introduced this year to create sunflower fireworks with a "pendulum effect" for the first time. As each light beam has a different burn rate and particle size, the launch timing error must be strictly controlled within 0.01 seconds, making it technically extremely challenging.

Regarding the absence of popular current affairs elements such as pandas or astronauts this year, Mr Mao responded that fireworks design pursues breakthroughs every year and "will not rehash last year's old ideas". This year the team chose "the sun" as the core theme, aiming to convey a positive message of warmth, vitality and hope.
